Description: Many adults misunderstand the reason we have seasons, but as students become the earth they will tilt, rotate and reveal the true reason for the seasons on our planet. Kinesthetic learning gets everyone involved in the lesson with time for assessment and follow up to make sure all the student “earths” understand. Add another 30-45 minutes for a Star Lab tour of this season’s constellations and to observe how the sun “travels” through the sky during each season. Suggested Grades 6 and up
45 minutes (w/o StarLab) 90 minutes w/StarLab.
Objectives:
Students will observe a scale model of the earth sun system
Students will recognize that seasons occur due to the tilt of the earth and its movement about the sun
Students will role play the earth as it moves through the seasons
Students will recognize that the angle of the suns rays and the length of day are the major factors creating seasons
