Lake Metroparks offers hands-on learning adventures that focus on farming, nature, wildlife or recreation experiences and incorporate cooperative group learning. Lake Metroparks programs are correlated to the Ohio Academic Standards in Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts and/ or Physical Education.

Description: October 15 through March 29 or year-round for outreach

Student teams create their own wind turbines and investigate solar panels using the scientific method. They examine the solar origin of energy and explore renewable and non-renewable energy sources. They examine a solar array and wind turbine to discover how electricity is generated. A science kit or a pre-visit is available to help prepare students for this lesson. This program replaces the Porter energy course.
