B.S.I. – Buggy Social Interactions
Learn how and why bugs communicate
Themed activities include games, crafts, live animal exhibits, demonstrations, storytelling and family fun that will feature buggy activities of many kinds. Ribbon cutting for the new Penitentiary Glen Outdoor Classroom will be at 1 pm, followed by a live animal program “Raptor Encounters.”
Join us as we celebrate the amazing diversity of the insect world. Guests will learn how and why bugs communicate through demonstrations, activities and games!
The Nature Center is turned into a showcase of bug displays, providing opportunities to experience the thrill of seeing and learning about live arthropods, including large tarantulas, walking sticks, praying mantis, scorpions, and more. Cases of beautiful mounted butterflies and other displays of insects are available for viewing courtesy of Bugs Unlimited..
Celebrate arthropods! These “jointed foot” animals are commonly called bugs and include Insects spiders, and even crayfish and lobsters! They number in the millions and their bizarre, unique and gross qualities are awe inspiring!
Kids may earn a ‘Bugology’ degree certificate by participating in at least five of the many ‘buggy’ activities. Activities include:.

“Drawn from Nature” Art Show – Perspectives in Colored Pencil exhibit.
Re-discover the magic of colored pencils as you join local artists on their journey of capturing the natural world through this special medium. Artwork is available for purchase.
Miniature steam train rides 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. – weather permitting.

Free admission for all ages!
Directions
Take I-90 to Rt. 306 south for about one mile. Turn left onto Rt. 615. Turn right (east) onto Kirtland-Chardon Road and continue for two miles. Penitentiary Glen Reservation is located on the right (south) side of the road.
