Celebrate this summer at Lake Metroparks summer day camps.

Children in preschool through 8th grade can experience this summer naturally at more than 70 different Summer Day Camps. Led by qualified staff at various park locations, summer day camps offer fun and educational activities, field trips, and an overnight campout for select camps. Pre-registration is required to participate in Lake Metroparks Summer Day Camps and/or the extended hours offerings.

  • Register today for camps online.
  • For the weekly discount and/or for extended care needs for Beach Adventure Camp and Creativity Camp, registration is available by phone, mail, or in person only.
  • To register for all camps and for any extended care needs, call Lake Metroparks Registration at (440) 358-7275 or 1-800-669-9226 (8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday).
  • In person registration is available at the Lake Metroparks Registration Office located at 11189 Spear Road in Concord Township.

Here is a preview of some of the summer day camp offerings from Lake Metroparks for 2008:

  • Dairy Delight (Grades 3 – 6) - Spend four days as a dairy farmer when you take care of dairy cows and calves, make home made ice cream, butter and cheese. Campers even visit a cheese factory.
  • Mommy and Me Mini Camp - Experience life on the farm with your three-year old child. Milk a cow, tend a garden, groom a mini horse, make crafts, and read farm stories. This fun interactive camp is designed for a parent or guardian with children who are three years of age by June 1. This is a three-day camp with half-day sessions.
  • Beach Adventure Camp (grades K - 5) - If your camper enjoys being in the water, set sail for the beach at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park this summer. Activities range from swimming and kayaking to kite flying, hiking, games, safety, nature, crafts and more. This camp is available by the day, or by the week. Registration for weekly discount and/or extended care for this camp is available by phone, mail, or in person only.
  • Get “Hooked On Fishing – Not on Drugs” Fishing Camp (Ages 8 to 11) - In addition to daily fishing trips, participants will learn about fish ecology, tying knots and casting, respect for one’s self and others, aquatic habitats and more. No equipment or experience needed.
  • Creativity Camp! (Grades K - 5) Activities range from crafts to special speakers to field trips and trips to the beach! Camp meets Monday through Friday at Painesville Township Park and is available for daily, weekly, or half-day sessions. Registration for weekly discount and/or extended care for this camp is available by phone, mail, or in person only.
  • Wild Encounters Camp (Ages 8 - 11) - Join us for a week at the Wildlife Center for encounters with live animals, peeks behind the scenes, become an animal trainer and try wild activities! End the week with a visit to Cleveland Zoo/Rainforest.
  • The First Discoveries Camp (Kindergarten) - Series provide an excellent opportunity for a young child’s first camp experience through hands-on exploration of the natural world around us. Activities will engage campers to help them learn about the 3 R’s of the environment – reverence, respect, and responsibility through hiking, games, crafts, and more.
  • Bite Sized Camps (grades 1 - 5) - Mini-camps that are only one or two days in length, yet offer a full array of activities, such as backcountry skills, rock climbing, fishing, science, art, scavenger hunts, and discovering plants and farm animals.
  • Art Adventures Camp (Ages 7 to 11) - Campers explore the patterns and colors of nature by artistically investigating different parks. Try painting with different mediums, learn sketching and shading techniques and make a naturalist sketch journal.
  • Camp Luckystone (grades 1 - 5) - Seven different camps provide a combination of nature and recreation and includes two to three field trips each week. Series includes Amazing Animals, Spectacular Sports, Treasure Hunters, and Skate and Score.
  • Lake Metroparks Adventure Camps! - Six camp offerings include Ultimate Adventures (ages 7 to 11) where campers experience the thrill of canoeing, rock climbing, kayaking, snorkeling (conditions permitting), archery and more. In Bridge to Anywhere (ages 9 to 12), just like Jess and Leslie in Bridge to Terabithia, campers will create a magical world all their own. Write a play, make costumes and scenery and present your masterpiece on Friday.
  • Farmcamps - Milk a cow, make brownies, groom a horse, and create a country fair for your family. Explore animals, plants, and farm products; and experience farm chores and farm life. Three camps to choose from: Once upon a Farmcamp (Preschool), Farmcamp, (grades K - 4), and Farm Adventures (grades 4 to 6), which includes an overnight stay at Farmpark.
  • Other Farmpark camps:
    • Horse’n Around Camp (ages 8 - 12). Experience the world of horses, ride like knights and fair ladies on a horse led by experience horsemen. Ride in a show wagon on parade day, visit horse farms, learn to care for horses, and explore animal careers.
      Horse Sense (ages 8 - 12) - Dream of driving a draft horse, riding English and Western style, or owning a horse? Experience horsemanship and a trip to a horse farm. Campers ride horses led by experienced horseman.
    • Renewable Energy Camp (ages 8 - 12) - Build a solar powered toy, make plastic from corn, go on a “green building” scavenger hunt and discover the science of renewable resources.
    • Plant Play (ages 8 - 12) - Tending a garden, growing plants with hydroponics, harvesting honey and plant experiments are part of the fun. Visit the Cleveland Botanical Garden to complete your adventure.
    • It’s a Wooly World participants (ages 8 – 12) Shear sheep, spin yarn, weave a wooly creation and tend sheep, goats and rabbits that provide the fiber used to make clothes. Continue your adventure at a llama farm.

Older children (ages 12 – 16) who are interested in being on the water will enjoy a series of boating camps offered by Lake Metroparks at Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park.

  • Boat Camp - Learn the world of boating. An Ohio Boaters Education Certification Course is given first to educate the campers on the rules and regulation of boating. After dry land training, they will learn how to canoe, kayak, sail, and drive a powerboat. Course curriculum also includes radio use and even boat construction.
  • Sailing camp offers youth the chance to learn the ins and outs of handling sailboats. They will handle a variety of sailboats in the protected harbor. Campers should expect to be on and in the water. Camp includes an overnight paddling session.
