The Super Star Party is an annual family astronomy night that features many indoor and outdoor activities for stargazers of all ages.

Activities

  • A Perseid (possibly 2) and Milky Way/WikipediaWatch the Perseid Meteor Shower
  • View the majestic display of the summer night sky above our park.
  • View planets and other stellar objects with telescopes and expert guidance provided by the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society. 
  • Members from CVAS will lead a discussion on how to use a telescope.
  • Take a naturalist-led night hike.
  • Watch an out-of-this-world presentation by NASA.
  • The Lake Shore Live Steamers will be offering a “Stargazers Express Train Ride” on miniature steam engines (weather permitting).
  • The Wildlife Center yard will be open featuring the program “Nocturnal Neighbors”.  There will also be a Wildlife Specialist available to introduce visitors to residents and answer questions.
  • Have fun with star crafts and games.
  • Step inside the indoor inflatable planetarium STARLAB and explore backyard astronomy.
  • Find astronomical gifts at the Nature Store. 
  • Refreshments will be available.

Registration

Advanced-registration is required to attend the Super Star Party

Registration fee for adults is $4; children ages 2 – 11, $3 and under 2 are free. 
All participants will receive a snack, drink, and a glow necklace.  Program runs rain or shine.

Directions:

Take I-90 to Rt. 306 south for about one mile. Turn left onto Rt. 615. Turn right (east) onto Kirtland-Chardon Road and continue for two miles. Penitentiary Glen Reservation is located on the right (south) side of the road.
