These recreation outreach adventures are designed for groups wishing to have an hour of outdoor fun, while in an educational setting. All equipment and instruction is provided for each of these unique recreational programs. Some programs will be at specific park locations; others can be brought to your schoolyard or other locations.
- Programs are designed for a minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 participants.
- Schools or groups of more than 30 participants can schedule back-to-back programs.
- Out-of-county programs are subject to an additional transportation fee.
- Teachers and group leaders are required to accompany the adventure.
- Programs are $4 per participant.
- All programs are weather dependent.

Techno Treasure Hunt
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
An entertaining adventure game for Global Positioning System beginners. Learn to use GPS units to locate coordinates to find caches or prize sites in the woods.
The Amazing Race
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Your challenge: Visit various countries of the world and participate in check point games based on activities played all over the earth. Receive a passport stamp at each country visited and keep moving! Watch out for detours and test your skills and knowledge.
Candy Apples & Banana Boats
Location: Lakefront Lodge
Learn easy dessert treats with an apple and banana base. Toppings include caramel, marshmallows and cinnamon filling. Eat there or take them to go.
Game Day
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
One, two, three, go! Youngsters engage in games aimed at participation and fun competition. Play with balls, ropes, and stuffed animals.
Things That Go
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Planes, cars, rockets, oh my! Learn to play with others as you experience these exciting toys. Watch them fly through the air or speed along the earth.
Outdoor Education Day
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park, Chapin Forest, or your site
Looking for an exciting way to end the year for your students? Try spending a day with Lake Metroparks! We offer two locations wtih a variety of activites available for you to choose from.
Wright Brothers Fly-In
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
In 1903, the Wright Brothers made history by becoming the first people to fly a motorized aircraft. Fly a balsa airplane and see if you can beat the Wright Brothers flight distance of 120 feet.
Bubbles and Balloons
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Bubbles and balloons are for more than just blowing! Come play with bubble wands, bubble beards, colored bubbles, bubble farm, and who can make the biggest bubble. Then move on to balloon time, where you will play with rocket balloons, round balloons, and make a shape with an animal balloon.
Fishing Adventures
Location: Veterans Park,Mentor
This is a program that all kids will fall for hook, line, and sinker. We've got the pond, the fish, the poles, and will even bring the worms. You just bring the kids to the park for fishing. All fish caught will be released back into the water.
Junior Golf Adventure
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
One, two, three, fore! Come and join us for a round of fun as we bring the experience of teeing off to your facility. We provide mats, clubs, tees, and wiffle golf balls. This adventure will give your group the experience of putting, driving, chipping, golf etiquette, and keeping score (accurately!).
Build a Better Rocket
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Three, two, one - Blast Off!!! The countdown is on to determine whose water rocket goes higher, looks better, or just plain gets off the ground. Participants must provide one 2-liter empty pop bottle and we provide all other needed supplies for this high flyin ' activity. Students keep their rockets.
Group Kayak Adventures
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park
You provide the kayakers,we provide the kayaks, paddles, lifejackets, and fun! In the protected waters at Fairport beach, we teach the fun-damentals of kayaking on our fleet of sit-on-top kayaks. Participants must be comfortable in the water. This program is also available for teens and adults.
Recycle Regatta
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park
Enjoy the beach air as we build our own Styrofoam boats with mast, sail, pontoons and decorations, and then race them in a mini-boat regatta! Don't forget your swimsuit!
Pirates Treasure Hunt
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park
Yo-Ho, Yo-Ho, A pirate 's life for you! Step back in history and learn the ways of the pirates. Search Fairport Beach for the buried treasure of the Pirates of Painesville. Learn how to read a map and learn a little bit about the history of Lake Erie.
Dino Dig
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park
Travel back in time and follow dinosaur tracks and an archaeologist's map along Fairport beach. The tracks lead to evidence of the age of the dinosaurs - bones, fossils, eggs, and more! The children excavate dinosaur bone puzzle pieces, and discover a dinosaur nest with dinosaur eggs.
Water World
Location:Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Come join us as we play water games on the sand and in the water. Bring your swimsuit and prepare to soak...or be soaked!
Introduction to Canoeing
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park
Come along and paddle on the beautiful Grand River and Lake Erie. Participants will learn canoeing basics, stroke technique and safety for the novice canoeist. This program will be at either Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park or on the Grand River. Location will be determined by wind, water, and waves of the day.
"Survivor" Challenge
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Your group will be split up into separate tribes and asked to compete against each other in mental and physical challenges. Teamwork and leadership skills will be put to the test to determine which tribe is the ultimate "Survivor." The exact challenges will vary with each location, season and group make-up.
Alphabet Adventures
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
"S" is for S'mores, and "G" is for Grinch, stay on the trail, and learning is a cinch! The Alphabet Adventure combines education with recreation, as our small hikers follow a trail of letters. At each letter they try to think of words that start with that letter, working on grammar and phonetics. The trail ends with an activity or discovery of the subject. Call for ideas, or pick your own!
Capture the Flag
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Collect points and flags as you negotiate the Capture the Flag course, always staying one step ahead of the other team.
Science Odyssey
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Teamwork and leadership skills will be put to the test to determine which team has the ultimate scientists. Teams learn through educational initiatives provided with each activity, and work on communication and team building skills. Challenges will vary with each location, season and group.
Cross-country Ski Adventure
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Learn to love wintry life in the Snow Belt! Cross-country skiing is a great way to learn to enjoy winter and exercise, at the same time. All equipment and instruction is provided. These programs fill quickly, so call early!
Dogsled Adventure
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Learn the preferred transportation method of the Klondike: the dogsled! Our recreation dogsled classes give participants basic dogsled commands, instructions, and a chance to be the driver, the passenger, and the dogs (no actual dogs are used for this program). Everyone gets a chance to try all three jobs in dogsled competitions against other dogsled teams. Hard work was never this much fun!.
Snowshoe Adventure
Location: Any select Lake Metroparks or your site
Traveling by snowshoe has been around for thousands of years. It started as a way to get around to hunt or gather food. Now it's for fun! Learn to walk, turn, travel, and play snowshoe games. Wear your regular outdoor winter boots - the snowshoes fit over them. We supply the snowshoes and instruction.
Elves Workshop
Location: Lake Metroparks Farmpark, Kirtland
It's a busy time of year for Santa, who's always looking for a few good helpers. Come out to Lake Metroparks Farmpark where Santa has set up a workshop to make toys. Each child becomes an elf for an hour and builds and decorates a wooden toy. Elves provide the tools, materials, and instruction needed to make the toys. Children take the toys home as holiday decorations.
