Lake Metroparks Fish Stocking Program

  • Posted May 24, 2021

Stocking typically takes place in the spring and fall of each year at various locations. Total amounts of past stockings have included about 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of largemouth bass, up to 2,000 bluegill, and around 1,000 to 1,500 channel catfish. In addition, fathead minnows are added where needed to help sustain the new additions and keep the pond populations healthy and well fed.

Approximate stocking amounts planned for 2021 (largest areas):

Hidden Lake:

  • 1,600 lbs. rainbow trout
  • 300 lbs. largemouth bass
  • 75 channel catfish
  • 250 bluegill
  • 300 lbs. minnows

Veterans Park (Granger Pond):

  • 1,500 lbs. rainbow trout
  • 1,900 lbs. largemouth bass
  • 500 channel catfish
  • 150 bluegill

Lake Metroparks facilitates Ohio Department of Natural Resources rainbow trout stockings at Granger Pond (the largest inland pond in Lake County) at Veterans Park. They have stocked 40,151 catchable trout since 2001 that are an average of half a pound each. Hidden Lake began receiving trout stockings last year. ODNR also stocks the Grand River at Grand River Landing utilizing the boat launch for easy access. That amount averages about 90,000 yearlings per year.

Our annual stocking program takes this one step further by adding more fish to our popular fishing locations. This stocking program helps to keep the pond population strong and allows anglers of all ages to have fun catching fish.
