Take aim! Lake Metroparks offers many archery opportunities.
Over the past several years, archery has become an increasingly popular sport across all age groups. In response to the growing interest, Lake Metroparks has developed an archery range, programs and camps to help visitors learn the sport.
The range at Hidden Lake features eight ground-level shooting lanes and 4’ x 4’ targets set at ranges from 10 to 50 yards and a raised shooting platform that will accommodate three archers. In a separate adjacent area, archers can use a shorter range (up to 20 yards), allowing people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the sport of archery.
The unstaffed range is open for general target shooting from dawn to dusk, seven days a week for free. The new range offers archers in and around Lake County the opportunity to practice on their own. All participants younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Archers must provide their own equipment. Only those targets provided by the park district are permitted. Archers must use field points only and broadheads are prohibited. Click here for more information.
The range at the Environmental Learning Center consists of two areas, the Upland Target Range and the Lowland Field Range. The Upland Target Range is set up for programs and consists of five targets with a safety backdrop. The range has ten, 20 and 30 yard lines to test each archer’s skills. It is designed as a teaching area with range rules to assure a consistent safety-minded culture for the many groups using the area. Our staff has completed certification programs through USA Archery and the National Field Archery Association.
The Lowland Field Range is down in the Jordan Creek Valley and consists of ten targets placed in shooting lanes that utilize the existing trees and the contours of the land. While we do not shoot at animals, the area is designed to give the feel of hunting in the woods in a natural setting.
Both areas are only available during programs and only Lake Metroparks equipment may be used.
A variety of programs for different ages and markets have been developed for each season. Archery has been incorporated into our camps and we offer archery programs to families, seniors, homeschool students and women. Programs are listed in Parks Plus! or you can contact Registration at 440-358-7275 to decide what activity is right for you.
