Lake Metroparks has worked to restore the property, once a commercial nursery, to a functioning floodplain corridor. Cottonwood and sycamore trees continue to reclaim the valley floor in the shadow of an 80-foot-high bank on the Chagrin River. An Ohio fishing license is required to fish in the Chagrin River at Pleasant Valley Park. Bald eagles have nested just west of Pleasant Valley Park for several years.
To protect the health of anyone who eats Ohio-caught fish, an annual advisory for how often these fish can be safely eaten is prepared by the Ohio Department of Health in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
