This cozy campsite is nestled near the rim of the gorge.
This cozy campsite is nestled near the rim of the gorge within the hemlocks and chestnut oaks. The site is just a short walk from the nearby designated parking space located near 8668 Kirtland-Chardon Rd. northwest of Penitentiary Glen Nature Center.
The site is alive with fox squirrels, white-tailed deer and the constant, yet subtle, trickle of distant Stoney Brook. A serenade of morning songbirds and the call of red-shouldered hawks greet your stay. The public flush restrooms and a drinking fountain are located at the nature center about one mile from the site along the Rabbit Run Loop Trail. The nature center closes each day at 5 pm but the exterior entrance to the restrooms remains open.
